Teaching students to write an essay is one of the most important lessons we provide as educators. However, it is also one of the most challenging. It has been my experience that students who complain of “brain fog” or “writer’s block” do not have the tools necessary to pull their thoughts together. We often tell our students to generate ideas and pull textual evidence to support their ideas all at once. You can imagine that this process becomes convoluted very quickly. Use this strategy to chunk the process to make writing easier for your student.
